E.T. Sequel Thespian Announced!

Since E.T. is safely home, who would the big guns hire for the sequel?  Andy Serkis was originally offered the role of the lovable scamp, but got stuck at the San Francisco Air Port after a a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Ape Habitat.  Gollum being the obvious second choice, has the complex inner conflict necessary for the role coupled with his ability to fit in the basket and look “foxy” in a schmata.
